WUHAN, May 18 – The Department of Forensic Medicine celebrated her four decades of academic excellence with a "Seeking Truth Through Innovation" forum, attended by over 400 forensic experts, alumni, and institutional leaders at Tongji Medical College of HUST.

Mr. XIE Zhengxue, a Vice Chairman of HUST Board opened the event by looking back to the department's long way to a Central China benchmark institution. "Through interdisciplinary integration of medicine, biology and chemistry," Mr. XIE noted, "our forensic program has established itself as a national model in education, research and judicial practice." He urged the institution to align with HUST's Fifth Party Congress directives to pursue the goal of a world-class university and accomplish more in the future.
Prof. WU Tang Chun, an academician and the Dean of Tongji Medical College of HUST, highlighted the department's pioneering status among China's top six forensic undergraduate programs. " Our 3,000+ graduates have significantly contributed to Rule-of-Law China and Healthy China initiatives," Prof. WU stated, calling for more rigorous growth of the program.

At the forum, prominent figures, including Prof. CONG Bin, Member of National People's Congress Standing Committee and Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Mr. YU Zhongshan, Secretary-General of Society of Forensic Medicine, praised the department's social responsibility. Mr. PENG Houpeng, a graduate of the program and Prof. LIU Liang, a faculty member, Ms. LIU Huine, a student now studying on the program, mentioned the institutional commitment to "uphold rights for the living and seek justice for the deceased."





A moving tribute came from Ms. YUE Xia, an alumnus now working in Southern Medical University, conveying the words from Prof. WANG Huijun, a late founder of the department: "Whenever our alma mater needs, I'll devote my full effort."
At the event, the Tongji Forensic Guangzhao Fund was established and is supported by alumni.
Academic sessions featured cutting-edge research presentations, including Prof. LIU Chao's analysis of novel psychoactive substances and Prof. ZHAO Xingchun's overview of forensic priorities of China's 14th Five-Year Plan. Separate afternoon sessions consisted of eighteen specialized lectures covering forensic psychiatry, AI applications, toxicological mechanisms, and sudden death pathology. Scholars from Fudan, Sun Yat-sen, Sichuan and Xi'an Jiaotong universities shared their latest research results.





Prof. XIONG Bo closed the event by likening the anniversary celebration as a springboard for future development: "We'll align our program growth goal with HUST's initiative of global first-rate university, pushing forward forensic application in judicial appraisal nationwide."
